State, county, municipal, or water court: Hinsdale County, Colorado has all four kinds, and the match comes before the search. The statewide schedule tool locates many upcoming hearings. A complete search may also need a vendor register for the case history, called a Register of Actions, or a request to the trial court clerk in Lake City for filed papers and certified records. Four records, four sources. Keep them apart and a Hinsdale County court docket search starts with the right source every time.

Hinsdale Docket Filters That Work

Every valid search needs a date plus at least one more filter. Set the location to Judicial District 7 and Hinsdale. Then pick the courthouse and court type if you know them. Felonies sit in District Court. Misdemeanors and state traffic cases usually belong to County Court. Division is free text. Drop it if a narrow query returns nothing. Individual searches want first and last names; business searches take the entity name. Attorney searches accept a name or a Colorado bar number.

A blank result only means no event falls in that window. It is not proof that no Hinsdale County case exists. Widen the dates, clear the division, try another court type, or call the clerk before you conclude anything.

Court Dockets: What They Show

The free court docket lists settings. The ROA is the case in chronological order. It starts with a header that names the case, court, caption, type, and status. Below that come entries for filings, minute orders, hearings, continuances, disposition, and post-judgment activity. Read them with care. A filed motion only shows that someone requested relief. The order that follows is what reveals the court's decision. An open status says nothing about who won or whether a criminal charge ended in conviction.

Case NumberYear, class letters, and sequence, such as 2025CR123.
CaptionParty names and the accepted or created case title.
Case TypeCriminal, civil, domestic, probate, traffic, small claims, juvenile, or water classification.
EventsFiled papers, minute orders, settings, resets, rulings, and financial entries in date order.
StatusOpen or closed system state, which is not a full outcome.
DispositionThe recorded resolution, read with the order or judgment when substance matters.

Colorado separates these products on purpose. A docket tells you when events happen. An ROA tells you what happened, in order. The filed document itself holds the actual words of a complaint, motion, order, or judgment.

Hinsdale Docket Codes in Context

Case-class letters help aim a search, but never guess them. Colorado's common classes run from CR for district criminal, M for county misdemeanor, and T for traffic. Beyond that, C or CV means civil, and S means small claims. DR is domestic relations, and PR is probate. JV or JD covers juvenile, and CW covers water. An unclear suffix is a question for the clerk. Bring the whole case number instead, since that avoids the current $5 clerk name-search fee.

ROA
Register of Actions, the brief chronological history of the case.
Setting
A scheduled court event, not always a trial.
Minute order
A short court entry that records what occurred or what was ordered.
Continuance
An order moving a hearing to a later date.
Disposition
The recorded resolution of a case or charge.

Codes and captions identify a record. They never substitute for the newest order or the filed paper beneath it.

Hinsdale County Courts and Their Dockets

Hinsdale Combined Court runs District Court and County Court from one building. One clerk operation keeps both sets of files. The two courts hold different jurisdiction. Appellate and federal dockets sit outside the local trial-court system entirely.

Hinsdale Dockets Serve Remote Terrain

Hinsdale County counted 788 residents at the 2020 Census. An estimated 753 followed on July 1, 2025. Across 1,123 square miles sit vast public land and high mountain routes. The Judicial Branch cites the small number of filings. It attributes the clerk's and county judge's limited sitting days to that. So phone and email access is central here, not an afterthought. Anyone crossing mountain passes should confirm the office is open. Check that a setting has not moved.

Court Dates and Settings in Hinsdale County

Begin with the notice or citation in hand. Then run the state docket search. Use Hinsdale as the location, with a date and a party, case, or attorney filter. When an ROA exists, trust the newest entry. Follow the latest notice, minute order, continuance, or reset over anything older. A past calendar row stays in the history after a date moves. Until the court says otherwise, the latest valid order controls.

Combined Court public hours currently run the third Friday of each month. The window is 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Lake City Municipal Court usually starts at 1:30 p.m. that same day. A regular session does not prove your matter is set, though. Call the Combined Court at 970-944-2227 for state matters. For town matters, use the municipal clerk at 970-944-2333. Hinsdale Dockets Span Paper and Digital

Colorado courts adopted e-filing in stages. Civil filings went statewide in 2013, criminal e-filing followed in 2017, and self-represented domestic access arrived in 2019. Colorado Courts E-Filing serves attorneys across major case classes. The public has no general portal. For a Hinsdale County docket, the public still moves among the free calendar, the vendor ROA, and documents held by the clerk.

CCE searching costs nothing under the September 2025 pricing model. Case-history access runs $15 when you did not e-file into that case, and it lasts 14 days. A standard e-file or e-service transaction is generally $12. Statutory filing fees sit on top of that. Eligible self-represented users must opt into their own domestic or eviction matter. Court acceptance can take up to two business days. Nobody may use that access for someone else's file. Those limits matter. They separate an authorized party workspace from the public Hinsdale County docket channels.

The official combined-court clerk listing names Cirenda S. Fry for Gunnison and Hinsdale.

Docket Access Under Colorado Law

Access to Colorado court files is governed chiefly by the Judicial Branch's court-record directive. The Colorado Open Records Act covers public records generally. It does not displace court-specific restrictions. Remote access, facility-only access, and excluded information sit in three separate boxes. Missing online does not mean closed. A sealed or protected item may call for legal authority and identification.

Key rules:

Chief Justice Directive 05-01 governs public access, remote display, restrictions, vendor data, and corrections.

Chief Justice Directive 06-01 governs court copy, certification, research, and retrieval charges.

Colorado Open Records Act governs public records generally, subject to the Judicial Branch's case-file rules.

Current rules matter because access standards and electronic systems change over time.

Restricted Hinsdale County Dockets

Sealed, suppressed, juvenile, probate, and protected records may be absent or only partly visible in a Hinsdale County court docket. The state request form warns that statutes, court rules, directives, and orders can limit a whole file or just selected documents. Government photo identification may be requested for suppressed, juvenile, probate, or confidential material. Identification proves who you are. It is not a pass to view the file.

A blank docket search is not proof of dismissal, acquittal, or nonexistence. Ask the Combined Court clerk about the trouble. It might be a date filter, a court selection, a facility-only record, a sealed file, or an access requirement. Colorado sealing limits public availability. It does not necessarily destroy the judicial file.

The Historic Hinsdale Docket Archive

The Hinsdale County courthouse dates to 1877. It is the oldest courthouse in Colorado still serving its original purpose. Its upstairs courtroom has seen a lot. County and district proceedings passed through it. So did Susan B. Anthony's suffrage visit and the Alferd Packer trial era. The Judicial Branch says original Packer sentencing documents remain viewable there. That is rare. Few archival court records stay tied to a working clerk's office like that.

A multi-year restoration wrapped up in September 2017. Crews added a foundation, repaired the structure, installed insulation, rehabilitated windows, and restored the interior. The frame courthouse kept its Italianate details. Original materials and continuing court use matter. They make an archive request different from a routine digital search. Ask whether an older file remains local or is stored off site. Ask what retrieval will cost. Ask whether inspection or a copy can be arranged during the limited clerk session.

The county courthouse history page describes the frame building and its restoration.

Water Dockets in Hinsdale County

Water-right cases in Hinsdale County go to Division 4. That specialized District Court division is administered from Montrose. Monthly resumes may flag a Hinsdale filing by its YYCW#### number, along with the affected county, stream or basin, application type, requested relief, prior case references, and an opposition deadline. Think of a resume as notice and index. It is not the full ROA. Nor is it the hearing calendar or the decree.

Start with the Division 4 resume archive for published applications. Then call the Water Clerk at 970-252-4300 for the file, the current setting, or a certified paper. This separate path matters in a headwaters county where water proceedings form a real part of the civil docket.

City-by-City Court Dockets in Hinsdale County

Lake City stands alone as the only incorporated town in Hinsdale County. Its Municipal Court handles town ordinance cases and municipal traffic tickets. State charges go elsewhere.
