Hinsdale County Civil Docket Searches
For a coming hearing, the free tool is the Colorado Judicial Branch Docket Search. Pick the Seventh Judicial District, then Hinsdale County and the courthouse. Add a date plus one more filter. If you know the class, choose District or County Court. Nothing beats a full case number. Party searches work for individuals and businesses. Attorney name or bar number is also an option.
A calendar listing is only part of the story, though. For real-time history, the Judicial Branch sends the public to approved vendors. These vendors search civil, civil water, small claims, and domestic ROAs by name or case number for a charge. Those vendors do not carry filed documents. The clerk of the Combined Court supplies an official ROA, pleading, order, judgment, or certified copy. Order through the online form, email, phone, mail, fax, or the counter.
- Identify the court and civil case class from existing papers.
- Choose Hinsdale, court type, and date in Docket Search.
- Add the case year and sequence or a party field.
- Read the newest setting and confirm the case identity.
- Ask the clerk for the ROA or named filed document.
Hinsdale Civil Docket Case Codes
Case codes steer a Hinsdale civil docket search toward the right court. CV marks District Court civil litigation. C points to County Court civil, and S to small claims. DR covers domestic relations. PR covers probate. CW marks the Water Court. Number padding differs, so copy the whole string, leading zero included.
| Class | Court route | Typical matter |
|---|---|---|
| CV | District Court | General civil disputes |
| C | County Court | County civil jurisdiction |
| S | County Court | Small claims |
| PR | District Court | Probate files |
| CW | Water Division 4 | Water-right applications |
A small claim can hide if it lands in County Court and you search District Court filters. Run the search again under County Court. Water-right filings go a different way entirely, through the Division 4 resume and the Water Clerk.
Civil Dockets: What They Show
A civil Register of Actions opens with the court, case number, caption, case type, and status. From there the history traces the starting complaint or petition, service and return, any answer, motions and responses, hearing notices, minute orders, and the final judgment, dismissal, or decree. Entries after that may track enforcement or satisfaction. Sequence varies case by case.
Read party roles with equal care. The plaintiff brings the suit; the defendant answers it. Petitioner and respondent appear in domestic, probate, and special proceedings. Counterclaims and appeals can shift a person's place in the record, so always check the caption and role on the current entry.
| Case number | Year, class letters, and sequence for the exact civil file. |
|---|---|
| Caption | Official case title and the parties' litigation roles. |
| Filings | Complaint, petition, answer, motion, response, or related entry. |
| Settings | Notices, resets, status conferences, motion hearings, and trials. |
| Outcome | Dismissal, default, judgment, decree, satisfaction, or other disposition. |
Hinsdale Civil Docket Motions
A motion asks the judge to act. It is not the ruling. Only a later minute order or signed order tells you whether the request was granted, denied, partly granted, or set for argument. Plenty of searchers stop at the motion entry and assume a result before the court has ruled at all.
- Motion
- A filed request asking the court for a ruling or action.
- Response
- A paper opposing or addressing the motion.
- Minute order
- The court's short record of an event, ruling, or direction.
- Judgment
- The formal determination of rights or final civil relief.
Pair every motion with the entries that follow it. When the exact wording counts, ask the Combined Court clerk for the signed order, since an approved vendor's ROA carries no pleading or order images. The newest docket entries hold the court's real decision.
Note: A pending motion shows no result; the later order supplies it.
What Cases Fill the Civil Docket
Hinsdale County District Court takes general civil cases. Domestic relations, probate, and anything else inside its broad jurisdiction belong there too. County Court handles county civil claims, small claims, possession proceedings, protection matters, replevin, and other limited case types. Water rights go to Water Division 4. That is a specialized District Court division run out of Montrose.
One clerk keeps both. The Combined Court clerk maintains the local District and County Court files alike. Check current Colorado Title 13 for exact monetary limits rather than guessing. The court named on the papers and the case-class letters are the best routing clues.
- General contract, tort, and property disputes
- Small claims and county civil matters
- Domestic relations and protection matters
- Probate petitions, wills, trusts, and claims
- Water-right applications and opposition filings
Hinsdale Civil Water Dockets
Water stands apart on the Hinsdale civil docket. Water Division 4 covers the Gunnison River basin and issues monthly resumes. One official entry can show a case number like 25CW3035, the affected county, the stream or basin, the water district, the application type, the requested relief, prior case references, counsel information, and a deadline to oppose. The Water Division 4 resume archive is the official monthly interface:
A resume gives notice and an index of applications. It is not the full ROA or decree. Filed images and certification come from the Water Clerk in Montrose. Search both the resume and the case record. And remember, an opposition deadline is not automatically a hearing date. Confirm any hearing through the Water Clerk or the current case ROA.
Hearings on the Civil Docket
A Hinsdale County civil docket can carry status conferences, motion hearings, case-management settings, and trials. Later review or enforcement matters show up too. Scheduling orders often set several deadlines first. Watch for continuances. The newest notice or minute order controls once a hearing is reset. The free state docket lets you find events by date, case number, party, or attorney. Old entries stay in the ROA after a reset. So read forward to the latest dated entry and confirm it with the clerk. Hinsdale's District Judges travel, and the local clerk's public session is limited. A quick call before a long trip can verify procedure or a current entry. No phone call itself grants a continuance, though.
Setting check: A civil docket entry may be a deadline, filing, or notice rather than an in-person hearing. Read the event label and order.
Hinsdale Civil Docket CCE Access
Colorado Courts E-Filing gives self-represented parties limited access in eligible domestic-relations and possession cases. You opt into an eligible case. The court then has up to two business days to accept it. Once in, you can view available documents around the clock. Filing or access for another person is not allowed. The Judicial Branch's self-represented e-filing page lays out the eligibility rules and the opt-in process:
That official resource describes CCE as an own-case filing channel for eligible users rather than an open search portal for every Hinsdale County civil docket. The CCE manual documents its search fields. Case location, class, type, name, status, and document all appear. Those fields show how the system is built. If you lack authorized access, stick with the free schedule, the vendor ROA, and the clerk-request chain for your court docket lookup.
Who Can See Civil Dockets
Access to court records in Colorado runs through Chief Justice Directive 05-01, which separates remote access, courthouse-only access, and information excluded from public view. A vendor display is supplied as is. It never becomes the official court record. Only one source exists for an official ROA, filed pleading, order, or certified judgment. It is the court that accepted the filing. Some juvenile, probate, domestic, protection, and confidential-information records are restricted or redacted. The request form may ask for government photo identification and proof of authority. Identification confirms who is asking. It does not create a right to material that a statute, rule, directive, or order still protects.
Hinsdale Civil Docket Copies
What can you order from the civil request form? Quite a few things. An Order for Judgment is the court's own filed ruling. A Transcript of Judgment is different. The clerk issues it as a judgment record. It is not a word-for-word account of any hearing. A Satisfaction of Judgment shows that a judgment has been paid off. Probate items run from Letters, Will, and Trust to Application, Petition, Closing, and Claims. There is also an Other field for things like the ROA.
Published fees for copies come to $0.25 per page. Certification or exemplification adds $20 per document. A transcript of judgment costs $25, a satisfaction certificate $20, and a name search $5. Older files may add actual retrieval cost. Work beyond the first hour is billed at $30 per hour for digging and redaction. Ask the Combined Court for an estimate first.
For background on these costs, the Colorado General Assembly's page on the fee adjustment for records retrieval explains how the state sets them:
That official page explains the price gap. An older or complex civil record request can cost more than a simple page copy. To order, submit the statewide online record form or reach HinsdaleClerk@judicial.state.co.us and 970-944-2227. The official Hinsdale trial-court page confirms the local court channel. Mail goes to Hinsdale Combined Court, 317 Henson Street, Lake City, CO 81235. List the case number, document name, contact details, and any certification you need. The ordinary service goal is three business days. Retrieval, redaction, access review, or another circumstance can extend it.
